Our page covers the most important things you need to know about fireworks at a wedding but you may have further questions. Below we have put together some of the most frequently asked questions that we have been asked over our years of supplying fireworks displays for weddings.

Do you need a licence for fireworks in the UK?
Generally, you do not need a license to organise a fireworks display in the UK.
However, as there are licenses for public entertainment involving music and regional legislation relating to noise, we liaise with the local district councils before every event to ensure they are notified.
Your venue may also be able to answer questions on local licensing laws.
Fireworks Licenses are only required if you store more than 2000kg net explosive content, or intend to sell fireworks. Electrify Pyrotechnics Ltd. is fully licensed to store and fire fireworks.
Can I have fireworks at my wedding?
You will need to check with your wedding venue whether or not they allow fireworks displays.
If you are planning a reception at a private residence, fireworks are allowed before 11pm, (unless it is also New Year’s Eve, Bonfire Night, Diwali or Lunar New Year.)
How much do people spend on wedding fireworks?
Typically, £1000-2000 is reasonable for a professional wedding firework display. This includes insurance, transport, planning and liaison with local authorities.
What is the best time for fireworks at a wedding?
The best time for a fireworks display is after the sun has set and the sky is completely dark. Wedding fireworks should be saved for the end of the reception as a finale before carriages.
Darkness allows the colours and bright explosions to be seen to their full effect, as well as any lighting or strobes in your display.
In the UK, this means timing depends on the season.
For a midwinter wedding, your firework display can happen any time after 6pm. In midsummer, the sky can stay light until 10pm. Since fireworks cannot legally be fired after 11pm, the range of times to choose from in summer is much smaller.
As most fireworks displays last around 10 minutes, a summer display is still a great way to round off a wedding.
Will the weather affect fireworks at my wedding?
Rain is not an issue for our professional fireworks displays. As long as the powder is dry, fireworks can take off in the rain. If it rains on your wedding day, we will take every precaution to make sure your fireworks can still go ahead, including using gazebos and wrapping the fireworks carefully to keep them dry.
Strong winds may affect the display a small amount by blowing fireworks away from the drop zone. We check the weather frequently and, if we need to rearrange the firing zone or move the audience, we can do this in plenty of time to make sure all displays go ahead safely.
Can I choose specific colours for my wedding fireworks?
Custom firework colours are available as an extra. This customisation is popular for weddings as couples can choose fireworks to match their wedding colours for the finale of their display. Enquire for more information.
Can wedding fireworks include music?
Music and fireworks go together like love and marriage – we call it a Pyromusical. Choose 10-13 minutes of your favourite music and we will choreograph your firework display to the rhythm. Read more about music and fireworks.
Do I need a risk assessment for fire works at my wedding?
We work with your venue to conduct all required risk assessments. This includes a site survey, planning the location of the audience and the firing zone and considering contingencies for any problems that may arise.
We’ve been firing displays at weddings for many years, so ensuring safety in all situations is embedded in our planning.
Do I need insurance for fireworks at my wedding?
At private events, you as the organisers don’t need to get fireworks insurance, as you won’t be firing them yourself. We are fully covered with professional firework display insurance up to £1million.
How much space do we need for wedding fireworks?
Firework displays require a lot of space, so make sure your wedding venue has plenty of open ground. We will conduct a site survey to ensure the display is viable, but here is a rough guide of space requirements based on the UK Government advice.
• Allow at least 50m x 20m for your firing area.
• Beyond this you will need a dropping zone for spent fireworks of 100m x 50m in the downwind direction.
• Spectators should stay at least 25m from the firing area and on the opposite side to the dropping zone.
How do I choose the right firework package for my wedding?
Choosing a firework package for a wedding largely depends on your budget. The more you can spend, the longer your display will be and the more extravagant the fireworks.
As a caveat, you could choose a shorter package and divert some of your budget towards extras, such as adding music to create a Pyromusical, or custom firework colours to match your wedding theme.
What permits or permissions are required for fireworks at a wedding venue?
It is important to discuss firework displays with your wedding venue and get their permission first and foremost. Some venues do not allow fireworks at all, while some only allow low-noise fireworks.
Once your wedding venue has agreed to a display, and you book with Electrify, we contact the Local Authority to arrange any other permissions we need. Because we are a professional company, we are fully licensed and able to do this quickly and easily, so you can focus on the rest of your wedding planning.
Can the fireworks display be customised to match our wedding theme or colours?
You can customise fireworks displays as much or as little as you want. If your wedding has specific colours, we can use these in your finale as an added extra. Similarly, if there is themed music that you’d like, we can set the display to the rhythm and tempo and create a jawdropping pyromusical. Most customisations require an extra fee, so please be aware that this may affect your quote when filling in our enquiry form.
Are there any restrictions on the timing or duration of the wedding fireworks show?
The maximum length of our fireworks displays is 13 minutes, which is the Lumiere package, whether you have music or not. This may sound short, but there are over 1000 explosions in this full-length display.
Do you handle the setup and cleanup of the wedding fireworks display?
Yes, we handle everything from site inspection to post-event clean-up. There is nobody better positioned to handle these essential tasks than expert fireworks display organisers. We also liaise with your venue to get everything in order, so you can concentrate on the rest of the wedding planning.
